‘TT’ OPENS 1 012 VOTES LEAD

MBABANE – Sihlangu and Mbabane Swallows captain Tony ‘TT’ Tsabedze is opening what seems to be an unassailable lead in the race for the Sports Star of the Year award.

With a day to spare, internet voting totals posted on the Swaziland Posts and Telecommunication Corporation’s platform, www.voting.sptc.co.sz, yesterday showed that ‘TT’ was 1 012 votes ahead of his closest competitor. In second place still was female sprint sensation, Phumlile Ndzinisa, with 727 votes.

Oyama Kyokushin Karate’s Linda Dlamini remained third with 569 votes. Still breathing heavily down his neck was the country’s fastest man, Sibusiso ‘SwaziBolt’ Matsenjwa, with 481 votes.
The contenders for the coveted award will know their fate on the night of the event as the current update excludes votes cast through payphones.

The voting lines will close at noon tomorrow, which will be the day for the awards gala night at Royal Swazi Convention Centre in Ezulwini. The event will start at 7pm.
To vote, the public must buy Umkhulili cards and dial the code of their favourite sports star using payphones. They can also vote online.

The other categories for the awards will be decided by the judges. They include the outstanding sportsman and sportswoman. In these categories are the likes of Matsenjwa, Linda Dlamini, ‘TT’, netball sharp shooter, Jabulisile Khathwane, cycling road races ace Carol Preat, and Ndzinisa.

 Joining hands in the event are Swazi Mobile, Africa-Euro Campus, Swazi MTN, Carson Auto, Nando’s Swaziland, Print Pak, Inhlonhla, and Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund.
Tickets for the event are said to be selling fast and a few are left. General tickets sell at E50 each while those for VIPs retail at E250 apiece.  They are sold at Nando’s outlets in Mbabane and Manzini, as well as the Ocean Basket at The Gables in Ezulwini.  Live performances are expected from the likes of Pelepele, Mzilankatha, and Linda Dlamini, among others.
