Guyana gears up to host major telecommunications conference and exhibition

Local telecommunications company, GTT is partnering with the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations(CANTO) to host CANTO’s 35th Annual General Meeting & Mini Expo in Guyana.

The event, which will take place next January, will draw stakeholders from more than thirty countries and large tech companies.

During a launching ceremony, Chief Executive Officer at GTT, Justin Need said he welcomes the move for his company to be partnering with CANTO to host the meeting in Guyana.

He said despite a number of challenges, GTT will continue to strive to make technology accessible, affordable and reliable.

“With the impending regularization laws to Guyana’s Telecommunication Sector, we eagerly anticipate a level playing field for all for all involved for example adherence to law, equatable taxation and even handed laws”, Nedd said.

CANTO’s General Secretary, Teresa Wankin invited more partnerships as the organisation’s members seek to address the connectivity gap in the region by understanding the challenges and opportunities.

She said that she is looking forward for the meeting to be a place for vibrant dialogue as a way for the sector to lead the charge in economic development through information and communications technology.

The Ministry of Public Telecommunications has indicated that it remains ready to support efforts to develop the sector.

CANTO is celebrating its 35th year as a Caribbean body, which is seeking transformation in the technology sector in the region.
