The Formula 1 circus is moving to Miami, Florida, and that’s the home state of Williams driver Logan Hunter Sargeant. Although he is currently struggling to get points, he is going to be one of the most-watched drivers in the Miami Grand Prix. Starting his F1 career in 2023, he is the newest driver on the grid, and so far he is struggling as he stood last in the 2023 drivers championship.

This year is still looking grim, as he has yet to score a point, which he has not been able to manage in the four races he took part in this year. Unfortunately, his car was given to Alex Albon for the Australian Grand Prix as the Thai driver had wrecked his car. His best finish was at the Japanese Grand Prix 2023, where he came in 10th, scoring the only point of his career to date. That being said, he is still young for the sport and has time to prove himself. Will Miami be where he achieves this?

While he is an American, his family moved to Switzerland when he was 12, where he started racing go-karts during the weekends. Sargeant gained attention in the motorsport world by becoming the first American since 1978 to win the FIA Karting World Championship title in 2015. It was finally in 2002 that Sargeant made his Formula 1 debut with the Williams Racing team. He was put in a seat right beside Alex Albon, replacing Nicholas Latifi in the process.

How did Logan Sargeant foray into racing?

Neither of Logan Sargeant’s parents were into Motorsports, and he spent most of his childhood near the waters, be it boating or surfing. So how exactly did he get into Motorsports? A fine Christmas morning. Initially, as an excuse to get him and his brother off their dirt bikes, Sargeant’s father gifted them Go-Karts for Christmas. Sargeant told GQ Sports that “it was honestly just about finding a new thing to have fun with.”

This was back when the driver was just 5 years old and his brother was 8 when they started racing at the tracks at Homestead and Opa Locka. Once they started winning all over America, the only question remained, “OK, now what do we do to make it harder?” The answer to that question was to race in Europe, and so the family packed up and moved to Switzerland. Here is when his career started to get more serious.

By 2016, the American driver had made his debut in the Formula 4 UAE Championship with Team Motopark, where he managed to finish on the podium in 15 out of 18 races without a win. He stood second that season behind his former teammate, Jonathan Aberdein; however, 2017 was a slightly different experience for him. While he had fewer podium finishes that season, he won two races at Rockingham and Silverstone.

In 2018, Logan Sargeant transitioned to the Formula Renault Eurocup, finishing fourth in the championship. The next move for him was to race in the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2019, where he drove quite well and also secured a podium finish at the Macau Grand Prix. In 2020, he joined Prema Racing, where he led the championship at certain points but ultimately finished third due to internal complications.

In 2021, Sargeant returned to F3 with the Charouz Racing System while claiming his first victory for the team. Later in the year itself, he debuted in Formula 2 with HWA Racelab. But that was not enough for him, and so he switched to Carlin with a few notable podiums and his first victory in the series. Along the way came retirements and crashes, and he ended the season in fourth place in the championship standings.

Throughout his career, Sargeant has showcased talent and potential by achieving victories, podiums, and strong performances in many racing categories across the board. In 2021, Logan Sargeant debuted in Formula 2 with HWA Racelab, later joining Carlin for the 2022 season. Ultimately, he finished fourth in the championship, securing two wins, two pole positions, and four podium finishes, which paved his way to getting noticed by F1 team principals. That’s how it all started for the young driver.

Who are Logan Sargeant’s parents?

Logan Sargeant’s parents, Daniel and Madelyn Sargeant, played vital roles in his journey to becoming an F1 driver with their move to Switzerland to begin with. While we know that Logan Sargeant is now an F1 driver, one lesser-known fact is that his brother Damon Sargeant used to drive in NASCAR. The fact that Sargeant’s parents were ready to uproot their lives in the USA and move to Switzerland is a huge show of their support for their children’s dreams.

His uncle Harry Sargeant III is a billionaire shipping businessman who has been of financial help in becoming an F1 driver. Addressing his parents’ support for his career, Sargeant said, “Both my parents have always been very supportive of me racing. I feel like he’s [my father] always had my back, no matter the situation. Also, the way he goes about what he needs to do and his discipline, as well as his business mindset.”

Is Logan Sargeant in a hot seat for the 2024 season?

So far, Sargeant has a lot to prove, as he is falling behind compared to all the other drivers on the grid. Having 1 point during his rookie season is not the worst outcome for a driver; however, 2024 is his second year on the grid, and it’s now or never for him to prove himself. He has yet to impress the fans and teams so he can get into a team that can give him a car that can compete for points in the future.
