The second phase of a major infrastructure project at Vancouver Barracks will begin this fall. Westech Construction of Portland was awarded a contract by the National Park Service to begin phase two as outlined in the site’s master plan. The contract is for $3.2 million and will replace water, sanitary sewer, electrical, and telecommunications systems at the East and South barracks.

Phase one was completed in 2016 and upgraded about 15 percent of the water, hydrant and sewer lines on site. Phase two will complete the remaining 85 percent.

The project is expected to be complete by 2019 and support existing tenants including the Gifford Pinchot National Forest headquarters, Bureau of Indian Affairs offices and the Army Air Force Exchange Service Shopette.

The upgrades also will provide the basic amenities necessary to rehabilitate the remaining 20 buildings on site.
