Windstream providing jobs to military veterans in Georgia

LITTLE ROCK, Ark., June 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Windstream (NASDAQ:WIN), a leading provider of advanced network communications and technology solutions, said today that its initiative to hire military veterans is providing career opportunities for a growing number of veterans in Georgia.

From January 2017 through the first quarter of 2018, Windstream hired 54 veterans in Georgia.

“I’m both proud and humbled that military veterans are finding a welcoming home in Windstream,” said J Berkshire, president of Windstream Operations in Georgia. “Veterans bring a unique mindset and skillset to what we do at Windstream. They have the leadership, commitment to task, and technical skills that we need.”

Jason Wistoski, a Windstream customer service technician in Dahlonega, Ga., retired in December 2017 from the 5th Ranger Training Battalion as a first sergeant. Wistoski said he liked the culture he found at Windstream.

“It’s a lot like the service,” said Wistoski, who spent more than 20 years in the Army. “Your purpose is to serve people, and you’re part of something bigger than yourself.”

Windstream stepped up its companywide military hiring program in 2015, naming Angel Ramos, a retired command sergeant major, to lead the effort.

In May, the company was named to the Best for Vets: Employers 2018 rankings by Military Times magazine for the second consecutive year. The company also was selected by Victory Media’s GI-Jobs magazine as the #2 Military Friendly Employer with revenue over $1 billion in 2018.

Interested veterans can contact Ramos at angel.ramos@windstream.com, or check out available jobs at www.windstreamtalent.com.
